Jean Henri Riesener (1734-1806), maître in 1768.
This table de chevet with refined combination of striking parquetry panels with finely chased ormolu mounts, is a superb example of Riesener’s later work. The architectural shape with ormolu
appears on a number of other pieces by this ébéniste delivered to the Garde-Meuble de la Couronne. A writing table with comparable parquetry and ormolu mounts, probably part of a suite of furniture Riesener delivered to Marie-Antoinette’s private apartments at the Tuileries in July 1784, is shown in the Royal collection RCIN 21209.
